Community Integration

Students at The New School of Montpelier practice new skills in the community. The vast resources of Montpelier and the surrounding area are accessed to supplement the school program.

Transition planning begins at enrollment. Some students transition back to public school, others into adult programs, and some go on to live independently in the community.

Students receive assistance in developing independent living skills through community integration activities with supervising staff. Ansell-Casey Life Skills Assessment, Vocational Assessments, and Interest Inventories begin the process of career exploration.

The School Transition Facilitator works with special education personnel to create meaningful volunteer and job placements in the community.
