Tower Building Dramatic Discovery

Tower Building with Note Cards

Using the Mystery Science curriculum, the Dramatic Discoverers learned about all kinds of matter and how to use it.  In this lab, students were given the task of building a 12’’ tower using nothing but scissors, note cards, and paper clips.  They were allowed to bend and fold the note cards; They were also encouraged to talk with others…to see how their ideas could manifest and evolve.  These adolescent scientists did not give up. Several times, their towers fell over, but like authentic science explorers, they analyzed what worked and they tried it again.  Some built their towers by stacking them up like a house of cards; others rolled theirs up like soft tortilla shells. So many different innovations, so many different facial expressions!
